How can you find suitable work with AI?

Define your experience and requirements, search for suitable opportunities, check the original listing, and organize applications and follow-ups.

Define work suited to your experience and circumstances

If you ask the assistant “Find me content writing work,” it may bring many links, but that does not mean any opportunity suits you. The job may require different experience, accept people only from a particular country, or be an old listing. We want research that saves you sorting, not a longer list of links to review.

Start with your experience and work samples, the work you want, and suitable countries or working arrangements. State important requirements, such as language, hours, or industry, from the start. Then have it explain why it recommends each opportunity, what matches your experience, and which requirements you do not yet meet. That helps you choose opportunities worth a tailored application.

Find opportunities and check the original job listing

Ask for the employer’s original listing link when available, the posting date if visible, location, working arrangement, requirements, and application method. If the date, salary, or eligibility to apply from your country is unclear, leave it missing in the table until verified.

Have it explain why the job suits your actual experience and which requirements you lack. It should not repeat the same opportunity from several websites as different opportunities.

Prepare an application showing relevant experience

Choose opportunities for which you have relevant examples. Check your CV against each opportunity’s requirements and choose portfolio work that demonstrates what is needed. If asked about experience you lack, say so and base the answer on what you can support.

Record the organization, link, application date, version used, and next follow-up. AI prepares the comparison and draft and organizes follow-up, but the result does not guarantee acceptance. The number of links is not a measure of research quality.

A ready-made example: a skill to help you search and prepare applications

The Job & Career Studio skill’s filename is upwork-job-strategist, but its use extends beyond Upwork: finding jobs or projects, evaluating listings, tailoring a CV, and writing a cover letter. Start at the stage you need; you do not have to do all of this at once.

Prepare an honest description of your experience or a CV, a job listing if you have one, and work samples you may share. You do not need to send private contact details to begin assessing the opportunity.

Try it on one listing before recurring searches
Evaluate the attached listing against my actual experience in the files. Explain which requirements I have evidence for, which I need to ask about, and which I do not meet. If the opportunity suits me, tailor a short application draft from my actual work without adding absent numbers or experience. Ask me about missing information that would change the assessment, and leave sending until after my review.

Look at the comparison before the polished wording: did the skill distinguish a mandatory requirement from a preference? Does every application claim have evidence? If you requested a search, open the original listing and check that applications are still open.

The jobs skill does not create a daily search just because you ask. Repetition needs scheduling that is actually available and configured, with criteria and a delivery location. Guide and refine the first trial before repeating it.

Repeat the opportunity search at a set time

After testing one search and refining the criteria, prepare a recurring task. In services supporting scheduling, define the time and time zone, sources accessible when the task runs, and the number of results or importance threshold.

Ask to keep a list of previously shown opportunities if the system supports suitable storage. Without a way to retain that list, do not assume duplicate prevention is guaranteed. Accept “No suitable new opportunities” instead of inventing opportunities to fill the count.
